History Draws Senior Visitors
Historically, Native Americans were the first to see the waters splashing over huge granite boulders spanning Gunpowder Creek. Pioneer Andrew Baird, in 1791, saw power in these churning waters – power he could harness to operate an iron works beside the stream. And in doing so, he became owner of all the land now occupied by the Town of Granite Falls.
The town purchased the historic home of Andrew Baird that was built in the 1790′s and stands today as the second oldest home in Caldwell County. Today this historic home houses the Granite Falls History and Transportation Museum.
