Seniors Discover Another “Sun City”

Many seniors have heard of the retirement center called Sun City, Arizona, but there is another in South Africa that is receiving lots of attention of late. It is a resort in South Africa and a premium destination with a host of hotels, attractions & kids’ activities – ideal for golfing, game viewing & water sports.

Two hours from Johannesburg, Sun City is a sprawling complex of luxury hotels, restaurants and Vegas-style shows on the edge of Pilanesberg Game Reserve. The fourth largest park in South Africa, “Pilanesberg is a melting pot of topographies, which include syenite koppies, forested ravines, bush veld and rolling grasslands and lightly wooded areas–all contained in the crater of an extinct volcano that covers 55,000 hectares.”

Senior visitors will discover lots of things to see in do in Sun City. Top attractions are the Gary Player Golf Course and close by, the Pilanesburg Game Reserve.  The Reserve is in the Bojanala Region of the North West Province and the locals call it ”The Volcano that gave birth to a game reserve”.

Seniors Relax At The Palace

Set among 60 acres of remote South African wilderness, this sprawling complex built in the crater of an extinct volcano is a wonderland destination where opulence in the bush takes on new meaning.

The jewel property in the Sun City resort, the Palace boasts interiors with hand-carved walls and furnishings and ceilings that depict a classic African landscape. Outside, the imitation sea and palm fringe beach, Valley of Waves, includes a 5,600-square-meter wave pool, water slides, sway bridge and Botanical Garden trails.

The Sun City resort has hosted the Miss South Africa and Miss South Africa Teen Pageant. These pageants take place annually in Sun City’s Super Bowl Arena and the Valley of Waves. It also hosted Miss World pageant from 1992-1995 and 2001, so it has some fame just for those events.

Also held in the Valley of Waves is the Springbreak summer festival which sees flocks of holiday-making students from all over the country gather for up to 5 days of fun in the sun. Sun City features a large auditorium which seats 6,230 folks.
