SENIORS JOURNEY THROUGH UTAH

Seniors Head To Park City

Unknown-1Park City.  I see that name quite often…it’s a favorite destination for visitors of all ages, including senior travelers.  The character of Park City has been greatly influenced by its location in the Wasatch Mountain Range giving the city a feeling isolation although it is only 36 miles east of downtown Salt Lake City.

I first became acquainted with Park City when my grandson spent time there in a Summer Adventure Camp at Deer Valley. It is in a beautiful setting so this senior can easily see why it attracts thousands of visitors all year long.

The city, pop. around 8,000, is mostly a resort town, famous for its skiing and other outdoor activities. Its mining roots keeps the town from being too yuppified and maintains a friendly and down-to-earth feel.

The Sundance Film Festival brings in celebrities to celebrate both accomplished filmmakers and relatively unknown talents. Park City is south east of Salt Lake City sitting somewhat isolated. Historic Park City is the gem among riches.

 Mines, Mines And More Mines

Since silver was discovered in the hills, there have been booms, busts, fires, and freezes, but the town’s adventurous spirit has never dimmed. Over the years some $400 million in silver, gold and lead was removed from mines in and around Park City, creating 18 silver baron millionaires, among them the father of the famed newspaperman William Randolph Hearst. That makes for a lot of silver and gold coins, senior friends.

Main Street is the center of Park City with its Victorian buildings and colorful storefronts that contribute to its quaint and picturesque setting. Park City is filled with art galleries and boutiques,  over 200 unique businesses and over 100 top notch restaurants and bars.

Seniors Find Festivals and Greatest Snow on Earth

Cultural festivals are held throughout the year and the ‘Greatest Snow on Earth’ draws over one million skiers and boarders to Park City. Park City Mountain Resort was ranked 4th best resort by TransWorld Snowboarding, and its terrain park ranked #1 in 2006.  The terrain park also ranked #1 in 2007. TripAdvisor has a nice listing of the major things to take in on your visit.

With its clean, clear, dry air and sparkling blue skies just visiting Park City is therapeutic. But if senior visitors want to take it to the next level, Park City offers more than a dozen luxury and day spas. Seniors, experience for yourself one of America’s finest in Park City.  jeb
